Favorite QuotesÆSOPS FABLESnPosted 27 September 2012: Many people have heard of ÆSOPS FABLES but almost nobody knows who he was and when he lived. He has been famous throughout the centuries for his teaching tales and fables. The fable taught people that sometimes there is a deeper truth behind an obvious falsehood. Æsop was born in Sardis on the Greek island of Samos he was born about 620 B.C. and was by birth a slave. His owner Jadmon gave him his liberty for his learning and his wit. By choice he fixed his residence in Sardis but was widely traveled and was the guest of kings and the companion of philosophers of his time. In Delphi he was accused of impiety and executed as a public criminal. Others honored him and a statue was erected to his memory in Athens. His Fables have survived for almost 2600 years that is his legacy to mankind.nIf any of my friends like Æsops Fables I will share more of them with you over time.nn: ÆSOPS FABLES – Ancient wisdom for modern timesnThe Tortoise and the HarenThe Hare one day ridiculed the short feet and slow pace of the Tortoise, who replied laughing: “Though you be swift as the wind I will beat you in the race.” The Hare believing her assertion to be simply impossible, assented to the proposal; and they agreed that the Fox should choose the course and fix the finish line. On the day appointed for the race the two started together. The Tortoise never for a moment stopped but went on with a slow and steady pace straight to the end of the race course. The Hare trusting to his native swiftness, cared little about the race, and lying down by the wayside, fell fast asleep. At last waking up and moving as fast as he could, he saw that the tortoise had passed the finish line, and was comfortably dozing after her fatigue. ÆSOP says that slow but steady wins the race.nThe Moral of the story: No matter how good you think you are, if you get cocky and lose track of your goals, others less suited will persevere in life and do better than you. So, no matter who you think you are you need to always give life your best shot and NEVER lose track of your goals. Because, slackers finish last. Always do your best.nThe Moral of the story, is of my own devising. If any of my friends like Æsops Fables I will share more of them with you over time.nMark Burnside
