More About MeIf there's any one thing that makes me "special" it would have to be my parents. Sure, I have talents that most people will never have. To be able to make a perfect weld using steel and other metals is a gift. I find myself often giving a helping hand to a friend or acquaintance or family member who needs such craftsmanship to fix many things we take for granted. I once created/fabricated something for a well-known doctor who used my model to invent something that is used in hospitals all over the world. But, I don't normally talk about myself. If there is a legacy I would like to leave behind, it would be that I embraced the qualities of my Mom & Dad. My Mom had a "heart of Gold" that rarely exists anymore in our dysfunctional world. My Dad was the most caring man that ever lived. He was friends with everyone. At his funeral, hundreds of people came from every part of the world to pay their respects for how much he impacted their lives. He was the true definition of what being a "Man" is all about. He cared for humanity and lived his life "doing unto others". Growing up in Central Florida was actually more fun than most people know because there was nothing but orange groves as far as the eye could see and fishing in the thousands of lakes was something we did all the time. Going out on a boat was a normal weekend occasion. Going to the beautiful beaches in New Smyrna (before the tourists and riff-raff discovered our little paradise) was one of the special treats we loved to do. Life was good. It was like "Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn", but in the South. The daylong trip down to the Keys was like' "Robinson Crusoe" and the 'Pirates of the Carribean"... Being a Florida local was a treat and there was so much to do and experience...just like the original Indians who loved this land. But just like the Indians, the land was taken over by the "whiteman/government" and soon there were highways so the "snowbirds" from the North could experience the pleasures of the "Sunshine" State. The driving force behind the expansion was Disney and the realization that Florida was a mecca of wealth & abundance. Today, the pristine Florida of the past is being squeezed until the natural environment is almost to the point of extinction. But Nature has a way of bouncing back, and life will go on. Someone once said, "The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes." I would like to think that there are still people out there who see life with their "new eyes" as I do. Mahalo
